Privacy Policy

Foolscap is a writing app. Your manuscript belongs to you, it lives on your device, and we do not sell anything about you to anyone.

1. What Foolscap stores on your device

Your books — outlines, chapters, notes, story bible, version history, covers and settings — are saved locally in the app's private storage on your phone or tablet. We do not run an account system and there is no Foolscap cloud library. If you delete the app, that local data is deleted with it, so please export anything you want to keep.

2. What is sent when you use AI features

When you ask Foolscap to draft, rewrite, critique or otherwise generate text, the app sends the text needed for that request — for example the passage you selected plus relevant context from your outline or story bible — to the Foolscap API, which forwards it to our AI model provider (DeepSeek) to produce a response.

Our AI provider processes the request under its own terms in order to return a completion. Their handling of that data is described in DeepSeek's own privacy documentation.

3. Technical data

To keep the service running we may process a limited amount of technical information with each request, such as an anonymous device identifier used for rate limiting, the approximate size of the request, timestamps, and error diagnostics. This is not linked to a name, email address or advertising profile.

4. Purchases

Foolscap Pro is sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and subscription state is managed for us by RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details. Those companies process your purchase under their own privacy policies; we receive only whether your device holds an active entitlement.

5. What we do not do

6. Retention

Local content stays on your device until you delete it. Server-side request logs are kept only as long as needed to operate and secure the service, and are then deleted.

7. Children

Foolscap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

8. Your choices

You can stop all transmission of your writing by not using the AI features, and you can remove all locally stored content by deleting a book inside the app or uninstalling the app. If you would like us to delete any diagnostic records associated with your device, write to us and we will do it.

9. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and the date above. Continuing to use Foolscap after a change means you accept the updated policy.
